This urgent message was published in a notice signed by Md. Zahidul Islam, Deputy General Manager (Admin) of DMTCL, on Tuesday, June 9. The notice clearly states: “Honorable passengers traveling on the Metro Rail are especially requested to wear masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.”
Commercial Spaces at Metro Rail Stations: Your Business's New Address!
The Metro Rail isn’t just for passenger transport anymore; it’s now poised to become a new frontier for your business expansion. Farmgate and Karwan Bazar: Prime Commercial Floors # Initially, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar stations of MRT Line-6 have been selected for commercial activities. These two stations are three-storied, and approximately 25,000 square feet of vacant space on their second floors will be leased out for commercial purposes. These expansive floors are suitable for various businesses, such as shopping malls, daily shops, banks, offices, or other commercial establishments.

The Metro Rail, a revolutionary addition to Dhaka’s public transportation system, has been progressing rapidly, but new uncertainties have emerged regarding some of its sections. Specifically, the 1.16-kilometer extension from Motijheel to Kamalapur is likely to fall behind schedule, causing some disappointment among commuters.
Inauguration Timeline and Current Status # Construction of the Metro Rail began on June 26, 2016. In the first phase, the Uttara to Agargaon section was inaugurated by then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on December 28, 2022. Subsequently, the Agargaon to Motijheel section was opened on November 4, 2023. At that time, it was repeatedly stated that the Kamalapur section would be operational by June 2025.
